Three Things Throw Down to a Healthier You in 30 Days

Getting Healthier

We are doing it friends. Every day the Abel family is getting healthier. Thanks to Ed at Ed’s Gym, we are ten months into Jeff’s Crazy Idea, and our family seems to really have turned a corner in making some major life changes. Are we always perfect? No. But we are’t the same people that began this journey in January.

Three Things Throw Down

The Three Things Throw Down

So to share the health love with everyone, this week on Facebook I threw down a challenge to all of my friends. I’m calling out folks to 30 days of eliminating three things. What are they? I’m so glad you asked! Here are the three things that are crap (yes, I said crap) and they’re killing us as a nation.

1. Soda and Candy (Think anything that fizzes and all forms of candy. That includes bars, canes, corn. Yes, I know it’s almost Halloween. You can give it away, just don’t raid the kid’s trick-or-treat stash.)

2. Refined Carbs (Think white breads, chips, pastries, white pastas, white rice, bagels, most cereals) and…

3. Fried Foods (Not that this needs explained, but if it is fried, just say no for 30 days)

Just 30 Days.

Can you do it? Or will you make excuses?

Come on now people. You know that there are absolutely NO  nutritional value in any of those three things I listed above. And I am here to challenge you to simply give them up for 30 days. I am calling you to accept this Three Things Throw Down for a Healthier You in 30 Days.

You CAN do it.

Will it be hard? Is this extreme? Maybe, but let’s get some perspective. Hard is the death of a loved one. Hard is loosing a job. Extreme is the epidemic of diabetes and heart disease in our country. Eliminating unhealthy food? Yes, it will be inconvient and it may make you cranky, but I don’t think it falls into the category of hard or extreme.

So if you want to join us start October 22, 2012. The challenge ends November 21st, just in time for Thanksgiving dinner. See how easy I’ve made this?

While you are “giving up” the crap food, think about what you are going to put into your body to fill you up. How about…

  • Fresh fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Protien
  • Water

Once the 30 days is up then let’s come back together and see how it all went down. Are you with me?

Lets do this! If you up for the challenge, leave a message in the comments.

Sure I am up to it!

I have lost 40 lbs in the last 3 months and I need to lose 30 more lbs.

The 3 Things you have mentioned are killers, especially soda. There is no such thing as a “diet soda” even though they label it that way. The sugar is still there. By getting rid of soda and chocolate bars (!!!), you CAN lose the weight!

Exercise during the 30 days will help tremendously. You don’t have to join a gym to lose the weight…just walk 30 minutes or less a day. With proper healthy eating and exercise, you will be surprised that you CAN lose the weight! I did!

Thanks Julie for issuing this Challenge!

AWESOME! I totally agree. Soda is terrible. All kinds. I didn’t call out folks to exercise cause I wanted to just encourage peeps to start with one thing. But yes- I totally agree working out is key. Jeff goes to Ed’s Gym 4 days a week. I run or go to the work out room to do the cross trainer 5-6 days a week.
Keep up with it Man! You can get those final 30 lbs off, but it will take focus!

I’m weird… I have to officially start on Nov 1st. I’ve already started by eliminating everything else, but the rice thing has only been reduced to 1 cup a day. We orientals use rice as a staple in almost everything we eat. Thanks for the challenge!

    • julieabel says:

YAY! Thanks for joining us Michelle. Rice is hard. I eat it now occasionally just to get some bulk in my diet, but when I do, I try to make it whole grain rather than just white rice. But since our family eats primarily paleo, it isn’t that big of a deal. You can do it!!

JoAnne and I started the 30 day challenge a week ago. The first week was tough to still get my workouts done but it seems to be getting better. Energy is leveling out.

    • Al- If you guys are doing a Whole 30 this challenge is NOTHING. A Whole 30 is by far the hardest thing I have done when it comes to food, but it was the catalyst for us to start this life change. Energy will start picking back up this week.

  4. Megan says:

I’ve been seeing your posts about this and finally decided to do it! It’s finally time I do something about my eating habits…again. :) support is always helpful..

  5. Priscilla Stevenson says:

I started eating Paleo about 7 days ago and found you guys while Googling for a chicken soup recipe. I think finding this challenge was meant-to-be! I already feel better…not so bloated feeling. Thanks for doing this challenge. It will help me! :-)
