It’s been a little while since we’ve updated the blog but wanted to take a second to let you know about a Father’s Day deal that Ed from Ed’s Gym is offering right now. If you haven’t found that perfect gift for dad, I can’t recommend this highly enough. We even did a little video for Ed to help promote this special. Check it out and give Ed a call. Tell him you have this Crazy Idea!
Hi everyone! Just a quick video update as we approach the four month marker for my crazy idea. Check out the video to find out about the 120 day update, our Paleo diet, my frustation with hitting a plateau, running adjustments, another Whole 30, and what to expect in the upcoming weeks.
Thanks for stopping by Jeff’s Crazy Idea today. I would love for you to share your thoughts and any updates on your crazy idea in the comments below.
As I was preparing to start running I talked to several people and stopped by The Colorado Running Company to find out about what I needed to do to find the right running shoe. In the past I would have headed to one of the sporting goods chain stores and found a pair of shoes that fit and been done with it. But Ed wanted me to look at minimalist shoes, and back in January I had met John from the Colorado Running Company when I stopped in to pick up my 26.2 sticker. He suggested that when I was ready to run, I should come back for a fitting. Perfect. So last week I stopped by the store and the search for the right running shoe began. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and I was a little intimidated. Running was new to me and the staff had a lot of experience, but my hesitation was for naught. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Their goal wasn’t to just get me out the door with the gear I needed, but to take the opportunity to teach me about the gear, how I run and share from their experience. It was fantastic and I learned a lot.
I asked Peter from the store to share a bit about what someone coming in for a shoe fitting should expect. Below is his guide for finding the right running shoe. [Read more...]
Believe it or not, I’m ready to run.
Here’s a quick update on the status of my Crazy Idea from April 1. (I waited until today to post since there wasn’t an April Fools joke in the video).
I’d love to hear about your crazy idea for 2012 and how it’s progressing. Share your story with us in the comments.
It was good to get back in the gym this week after our Seattle trip and the cheeseburger experiment. I shot a time lapse of what a hour long workout at Ed’s looks like and shrunk it down to less than 30 seconds. The camera was in the corner, so some of the shots are a little far away, but you’ll still get a feel for it. One of the things I love about Ed’s Gym is that it isn’t about the fancy equipment. There is definitely a minimilast feel. It’s just you, Ed, some simple gear and hard work.
Workouts like this four times a week and the nutrition plan Ed has me on have allowed me to lose 23 pounds since Jan 8. I haven’t felt this good in years and can’t wait to see where I am at the 60 day mark.
Julie gives you a quick review of our first week of the Whole 30 program from a mom’s perspective including how it is bringing our family together, some ups and downs, and how it is affecting her allergies.
Julie mentioned in the video that we weren’t having any major cravings — well that changed last night. After a not so successful new recipe and an evening out of the house ,we were all pretty hungry and everyone was craving their favorite foods. Driving past restaurant after restaurant on the way home was torture. I posted on Facebook and Twitter that I would kill for a cheeseburger. After we got home, I fired up the grill, put on some burgers, sautéed some peppers and red onions and fried eggs, no cheese, no buns. It wasn’t a Five Guys burger – but it killed the cravings and kept us on the program. I understand that we may experience a few days of this type of craving – glad the whole family is in this together and encouraging each other to stay on course.
If you’re doing the Whole 30 plan along with us, we’d love for you to give an update in the comments and share how you are doing.
In the last post I talked about making decisions and moving forward on bad days. Here’s some video for the workouts at Ed’s Gym on Thursday and Friday. Thursday was a recovery day, which I really needed. That “foam” roller hurt like crazy but made the muscles feel much better afterwards. Friday we kicked it back up and I got my first taste of the kettle bell, did some sprints and body rows. Check out the video for a really quick look at what happened in the gym.
I plan to talk a walk with Julie today to keep loosening things up and then hit the gym with Ed again on Monday evening.
After cleaning out the kitchen on Friday, a trip for some groceries was needed. On Saturday we met Ed at Whole Foods to learn more about what we can eat on the Whole 30 program and to do some shopping. Here’s a peek at our trip.
Ed was a great teacher and we came home with foods we didn’t know existed. We’re excited to finally be started on the adventure.
Here’s a link to the Well Fed cookbook that Ed mentioned. (The recipes are good, but the pages are coming out of the cookbook already). [Read more...]
